Connect GuideBeam to Claude

Connect GuideBeam to Claude to bring your career profile into career-planning conversations without copying assessment results by hand. Claude can read the GuideBeam information you authorise and, when you ask, save a small set of updates back to your account.

Where the connector works

The GuideBeam connector currently supports Claude's hosted connector experience in Claude on the web, desktop, and mobile. It is not currently supported in Claude Code because Claude Code uses a local callback address that GuideBeam does not allow for security reasons.

You need:

• A GuideBeam account
• Access to connectors in your Claude plan or organisation
• A completed GuideBeam profile for the most useful results

Connect from Claude

Once GuideBeam is available in Claude's Connectors Directory:

1. Open Settings → Connectors in Claude.
2. Find GuideBeam and select Connect.
3. Sign in to GuideBeam.
4. Review the access request and select Allow access.
5. Return to Claude and start a new conversation.

During private testing, an organisation administrator can add GuideBeam as a custom connector using:

GuideBeam uses OAuth. You never give Claude your GuideBeam password, and the connector can only access the GuideBeam account that approved the connection.

What Claude can read

Claude can request these parts of your GuideBeam account when they are relevant to your question:

• Your basic career-profile summary
• Personality factors from your latest HEXACO or Mini-IPIP result
• RIASEC vocational interests from CABIN-NET or Interest Snapshot
• Relative work-value priorities from PVQ-RR
• Your stated career direction
• Your career matches and fit analysis
• Your next recommended GuideBeam step
• Your hobbies
• Your latest weekly check-in

GuideBeam returns factor-level assessment results and links you back to GuideBeam when an assessment or other activity needs to be completed. Assessments are never administered inside Claude.

Profile reads are available on GuideBeam Free and Pro.

What Claude can change

Claude can only write to GuideBeam when you make a request that calls a write tool. The available writes are:

• Add a hobby
• Remove a hobby
• Record a weekly check-in
• Share structured career context for your review in GuideBeam

Ongoing connector writes require GuideBeam Pro. A new user can make one free initial structured-context sync; later context syncs require Pro.

Shared career context is saved as pending suggestions. It does not silently replace your confirmed profile. Review the suggestions in GuideBeam before accepting or rejecting them.

What GuideBeam does not access

The connector does not ask for or store:

• Your Claude memory
• Your Claude chat history or transcripts
• Claude conversation summaries
• Files attached to Claude
• Unrelated account or organisation data

Claude sends only the structured fields required for the GuideBeam tool you chose to use. GuideBeam does not use tool responses to advertise or redirect Claude's behaviour.

Useful prompts

Try prompts such as:

• "Use my GuideBeam interests, values, and personality to compare product management with service design."
• "What tension do you see between my current career direction and my strongest work-value priorities?"
• "Read my latest GuideBeam check-in and help me choose one realistic career action for this week."
• "Save hiking as a hobby in GuideBeam."

Claude will ask for confirmation according to its own connector settings before potentially destructive actions such as removing a hobby.

Disconnect or revoke access

To stop using the connector, open Settings → Connectors in Claude and disconnect GuideBeam.

If you also want GuideBeam to revoke the connector's server-side authorisation, contact GuideBeam support from the email address on your account. We will invalidate the connection. A self-service connected-apps screen is not available yet.

Connector-created profile information remains part of your GuideBeam account until you remove it or delete the account. See the GuideBeam Privacy Policy for retention and deletion details.

Troubleshooting

Claude asks me to connect again

Reconnect GuideBeam from Claude's connector settings. This can happen after you disconnect, revoke access, change security settings, or when a session expires.

A write says GuideBeam Pro is required

Profile reads remain available. Adding or removing hobbies, recording check-ins, and repeating a career-context sync are Pro features. Open your GuideBeam account to review your plan.

My assessment is missing

Claude only receives completed results. Follow the nextStep link returned by GuideBeam, complete the assessment in GuideBeam, and then ask Claude to read it again.

Claude Code cannot finish sign-in

GuideBeam does not currently support Claude Code's local callback flow. Use Claude on the web, desktop, or mobile instead.
